Welcome to Saint Ansgar Lutheran Church blog.
We are an old Danish, ELCA, Lutheran Church in the Middle of Waterloo, Iowa.
Our Pastor Jim Gardner has been with us since Jan. 1994. We hope he never leaves.

We are an active congregation with Mission and Bible Study being very important to us. The congregation helps support a Missionary family. Each month we collect money and items for other non profits in the area. We have five adult Bible Studies going each week. They are a wonderful way to grow spiritually. Fellowship is something we also enjoy. Our members meet together regularly for Pot Luck on the second Wednesday of each month. During Lent we have meals each week.

If you are looking for a church you are more than welcome to visit. Sunday Worship is at 9:00 am and Monday at 6:30 pm. We have open communion at St. Ansgar. If you believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine you are welcome to commune.

Lent 2012

Lent 2012 - Watchers on the Hill
Ash Wednesday- Feb 22, 2012 Worship 7:00

WATCHERS ON THE HILL is a chancel play for the Lenten season presented in eight short acts. The play brings worship participants to the foot of the cross on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, as a series of characters—some historical, some fictitious—come face to face with the reality of Christ’s death through the lens of their own unique perspectives. With the cross as the focal point and the final words of Jesus as the binding thread, each two-person act takes worshippers another step closer to the final moments of his life, all the while exploring and celebrating God’s amazing plan to save His people. The acts are woven together through the use of Scripture and the Gospel-grounded reflections of a Narrator.

Fall is really here!

We had about
250 kids this
year.
The street was
finished just
that day.
It was very
cold so we
all had to
bundle up.

Activities start up again in September.

The city is still working on 11th street. Hopefully it will be done soon. Right now it looks like a messy dirt street. It should be done by the end of Sept.

Vacation Bible School went well. We had a little bit
of hot weather but everyone took that in stride. There was good food, activities, crafts, video and classroom time. Thanks to all that helped.

Lots of groups start up again in September...Bible Studies...Sunday School...Women's groups... I'll post the dates when I get them all together. Meanwhile we continue to worship each Sun at 9:00 and Mon at 6:30. Join us.

Summer Goes Quickly

I am almost done with my Summer vacation. It was full of fun, relaxation and rejuvenation for both Cheryl and I. We went to ball games, watched movies and worked on the back room. It is finished enough for furniture and for us to enjoy a lot.

I'll be back in the pulpit this Sunday July 31st.
See you all then.

Spring Time

Been awhile since I have posted on here. Snow is all gone and now we have rain and warm weather and grass to mow. We need some volunteers. Please pray about it and if the spirit moves you please do something about it.

We need:
Sunday Altar Guild
Sunday Ushers
Vacation Bible School teachers and helpers

Blessings,
Pastor Jim

Snow...

Snow and lots of wind yesterday afternoon and all night long. Cancelled Bible Study, Ruth Circle and Confirmation for today. Did not go out to Men's Breakfast either. Looks calm outside right now...time to get the snow blower out and going.

This Sunday is Traditional worship with Fellowship, Bible Study and Sunday School afterwards.
